Scholarship Opportunities

Each year, Nantucket Booster Club awards four $1,000.00 scholarships to two alumni females and two alumni males who are graduates of Nantucket High School and participated in not less than two (2) years of sports at Nantucket High School and have completed at least one full year of post-high school education. Applicants must hold a GPA of not less than 2.5 in their college, vocational or advanced studies program.

2024 Scholarship Recipients

Evan Belanger

Evan will be a junior at Montana State University. He was a NHS three sport athlete, competing in golf, ice hockey and tennis – captaining all three sports. “Being a three sport athlete allowed me to make lifetime friendships, relationships, and a sense of brotherhood that I will be forever grateful for.”

James Culkins

James will be entering his senior year at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. James played golf, ice hockey and lacrosse while at Nantucket High School. He also was able to play a Fall 2 season of football due to Covid. He played two years of club ice hockey at Mass Maritime. “Being a Whaler and playing high school sports was the best part of my high school years. I had great coaches and played with the best group of guys. Besides being fun, it taught me teamwork, discipline and the benefits of hard work. These skills have gotten me through the demands of Mass Maritime Academy.”

Emily Dussault

Emily is entering her third year at Merrimack College and is a member of the Division I Merrimack Warriors Swim Team. Along with being a member of the swim and dive team at NHS, she also participated in tennis, where she was captain of both. “I learned a lot over my four years at NHS in the classroom, on the court, and in the pool. I gained so much leadership, team bonding, and communication skills both on the swim and tennis teams and I will continue to cherish the memories made.”

Kalina Natcheva

Kalina will be entering her second year at St. Lawrence University where she is a member of the volleyball team. She was a senior captain for the Whalers and also participated in the swim program since grade one. “What lessons have I learned as a NHS student athlete? There are no shortcuts in life. It is as simple as that. The keys to success are hard work, dedication, and perseverance!”

Darian Duarte

Darian is entering his senior year at Bryant University and a member of the Division I Bryant Bulldog Football Team. Darian played basketball, lacrosse, and football while at Nantucket High School. He was a football captain his senior year. “My time and experience as an NHS athlete will be a time in my life where I can look back and say thank you, for everything it has done and will continue to do for me throughout my lifetime”

Evelyn Fey

Evelyn is a sophomore at Holy Cross where she plays club soccer and club hockey.

She was a captain of her soccer, hockey, and lacrosse teams while at NHS. She was also the recipient of the 2022 Boston Bruins Sportsmanship Award. “To share what knowledge and pride I had in wearing a jersey with the word Whalers across my chest, this equaled pride. That pride gave me courage and the drive to work with the team to help us grow, as well as to embrace and highlight what each person brought to the team.”

Garner Ray

Garner is entering his second year at Montana State University. Garner played football and baseball for the Whalers while at Nantucket High School. “Rain or shine, friends, family, and community members all dressed in navy blue and white, waving flags, rigging bells, and cheering with deep Whaler Pride that sent me to an amazing space of fulfillment, contentment, and most importantly a feeling of connection.”

Maclaine Willett

Maclaine is entering her second year at Boston College. While at NHS, she played field hockey, basketball, and softball, and was a captain of all three by her senior year. Maclaine participates in intramural sports at BC. “The camaraderie of NHS and Nantucket as a whole is indescribable, and also unique to our little island. I can honestly say that without the experience of being a 4-year NHS athlete, I would not be the person that I am today.”

Boden Corbett

Boden is in his 2nd year at Framingham State University. Boden played hockey for the Whalers while at Nantucket High School.

 

Madison Iller

Madison is in her 2nd year at George Washington University. Madison played soccer and swam for the Whalers while at Nantucket High School. Madison is currently active in her schools Archery and Boxing Clubs.

Sydney King

Sydney is in her 2nd year at Iowa State University. Sydney played soccer and basketball for the Whalers while at Nantucket High School. Sydney was captain of both teams her senior year. During her freshman year at Iowa State, Sydney played goalie for their woman’s soccer club.

 

 

 

 

Austin Starr

Austin is in his 4th year at Mass Maritime Academy. Austin played hockey and lacrosse for the Whalers while at Nantucket High School. Austin was captain of his hockey team his senior year.
